This company has filed for a chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January of 2010. They have been able to dispose of most of the dept and come out of it with barely noticing that there had been a problem. Some of the debt had originated from prior owners. Although they filed bankruptcy it did not hurt the company. It is a very strong and solid company.

Liberty League International Review

January 22nd, 2012

Liberty League has been a pioneer in the growth of the direct sales industry but their future was cut short a bit by a review of the Arizona Attorney General. Although the Attorney General’s review showed that they were a legitimate network marketing company, the actions allowed their competitors to spin it on the web and make it out worse than it was. As a result of the Attorney General’s actions, Liberty League was labeled as a scam.

The facts are that Liberty League is primarily a personal development product. They offer three products:

o Beyond Freedom a 90 day personal development home study course retails at $1,500.00.
o The second product is the Liberty conference. This is a 3 day conference for two people which retails at $7,995.00.
o The final product is the Summit conference. A five-day event held annually at locations around globe, such as Rome, South Africa and Australia with a retail price of $12,995.00.

The questions I had to ask are what I repeat in all my trainings is that would you buy the product if there wasn’t a business opportunity attached to it? Well to answer that let’s look at the products:

o The Beyond Freedom course is basically the book “Think and Grow Rich” packaged with workbooks and CD’s. If you bought the book, you would basically get the same information.
o No marketing system exists for the distributors to plug into for their contact lead management.
o They charge a monthly fee for corporate replicated websites which can’t be optimized for internet marketing purposes.
o They are one of the few companies that require their associates to pay for access to training and presentation conference lines.
o No internet marketing systems are included in the first year’s fees of $2,722.00

Most people familiar with Liberty League International’s seminars agree that the information provided by the company is true and sound, it is also true that you can obtain that information from some of the best books written and available at the book store.

While Liberty League falls short on some of this writer’s criteria for a network marketing business, from what I could research people were thrilled with the seminars. I know that group interaction with this type of information can be powerful and create life changing experiences. People tend to need people, and sometimes a book just can’t suffice!

Free Home Business: Is It Possible To Find A Legitimate Home Based Business That Is Free To Start?

January 21st, 2012

“Home Based Business” will pull millions of hits in an internet search. There are thousands of companies with millions of distributors looking for customers and distributors of their own.

Home business opportunities universally promise substantial income and display the elevated lifestyles of their top achievers to prove the point. Most of these presentations are exciting and inspiring as example after example of ‘ordinary people’ making it big raise our belief that we too can find financial freedom.

The challenge for opportunity seekers comes when they learn it will cost them tens of dollars to thousands of dollars to get started in a work from home business opportunity. Many begin looking for an opportunity seeking one where they can start for free.

Some companies pay their distributors to recruit new prospects and some don’t, but you can universally expect to be asked to pay for the privilege of joining their company.

Is it possible to find a legitimate home based business that is free to start? Probably not, unless you plan on bending the rules a bit.

Here are my suggestions to starting a home business without paying for the privilege:

Do Your Homework

Whether you are approached by a particular company or you are searching for an opportunity you should do your homework. Avoid the forums and reviews by individuals. The sad truth is that most people at too lazy to get out of their own way and too proud to take coaching so they fail. When they tank, they look for someone to blame which usually ends up being the company or their mentor.

Instead, look at the business press. Is the company well established, growing (especially in mature markets) and innovating? It is common for a new company to post impressive growth numbers when it first starts, or opens new markets. The true indicator is how much the company is growing in mature markets, places where they have been for years.

One of the sweetest allures of the network marketing industry, which makes up the overwhelming majority of home based business opportunities, is “Getting In On The Ground Level” which is synonymous with investing your time, effort and resources into a company that is unproven. Like any business, most companies never make it past the five-year mark. Look for a company with some time, about five years, under its belt.

Building a business is hard work. Choose a solid company to invest your time and energy with.

Once you have chosen your company, done your homework, and are ready to get started, you’ll need a sponsor.

How To Get Sponsored For Free

Years ago I wanted a job with a paper company as a sales rep calling on printers for their needs. I had no real experience in this area, but I knew I could do it. My background was in printing plus I could see that these guys made good money and I wanted in.

The company I interviewed with was luke-warm about hiring me. They had a formula for new hires and I didn’t fit their program. I decided to go all out and I made them an offer: If they would hire me and put me on the street I’d work on straight commission. That way I wouldn’t cost them anything.

We finally came to an agreement and I had a great 20-year career. I made lots of money for them and for myself. It was a win-win.

When you decide to start your home business, you are going to need to pitch yourself in a similar way if you want to work around the several hundred dollars it will probably cost you to start with a legitimate company. You need to create that win-win to get them thinking outside the box.

Every distributor wants new customers and distributors. That’s how the business grows and you become one of those people in the videos living the good life. Prospecting is where you will spend most of your time in your business as well as most of your money. When you factor in time, advertising cost and other resources you will be spending a hefty sum for each new person who becomes a customer or joins your business.

Since you are going to have to do it any way, why not start prospecting before you join the business?

If you’ve decided that you want to join ‘Widgets International’ and you have found John Doe, a Widgets International Independent Distributor, then instead of telling him you’ll pay his $250 sign-up fee (hypothetical…varies by opportunity) tell him you’ll put him in front of 10 of your acquaintances for him to make a Widget Demonstration.

All you ask is that the first $250 he clears from any sales go toward your sign-up fee to become a Widgets International Independent Distributor yourself, and that those customers you brought to the presentation will be yours as a distributor.

If you don’t crack the nut in the first go around, meaning you don’t sell enough to cover your distributorship, you simply repeat the process until you do.

How You Sell The Idea: It’s A True Win-Win For Everyone

Your up-line distributor gets to present to a group of people he did not have to spend time or money to assemble. He potentially gets a new, motivated distributor (you) and even if you flame out he now has the people you brought to the table as prospects who he can stay in contact with and convert to customers.

You get a distributorship without writing a check or swiping your card. You even have some new customers and a repeatable model you can use to bring other people to your new business.

Tom Bradley is veteran of the direct selling trenches, generating over $60 Million in revenues over the past 20 years. He was into attraction marketing before it was an internet buzzword and he believes in loyally promoting your company while aggressively branding yourself.

Networking Organizations Assembling Socially Responsible Professionals

January 14th, 2012

In today’s society, many professionals and corporations are giving back to their communities. By becoming socially responsible, these people are making a difference in both the environment and within their own communities.

Several networking organizations exist to bring together these professionals to educate, share resources, network and collaborate with the goal of making the world a better place. Take notice of these organizations because they are bound to make a difference in your community.

Net Impact

Net Impact, which was originally founded in 1993 as Students for Responsible Business, is an organization that brings together more than 11,000 M.B.A. students and professionals. Its mission is “to foster a new generation of leaders who use the power of business to create a better world.”

Net Impact is an international organization with more than 100 chapters. It is comprised of 15 city-based chapters, 17 international chapters and more than 70 M.B.A. school chapters. Midwest chapters include Chicago and Cleveland.

Net Impact helps members to use their business skills for positive social change by providing education, career resources, events and an international network. Each chapter puts on a variety of events including topics such as social cases, business plan competitions, a speaker series and career panels.

Its programs not only allow members to enhance their business network but also broaden their business education, refine their leadership skills and pursue their professional goals.

In 2004, the Chicago chapter was formed, which already has 300 members and is growing. A unique and ongoing program that this chapter facilitates is its “Net Impact Non-Profit Advisors,” which matches Net Impact professionals with local non-profit organizations for short-term engagements.

“Chicago is one of the thought leaders in the world regarding corporate social responsibility. It was a natural fit to start a Net Impact chapter here,” said Mark Mastroianni of B2P Commerce, a leadership team member from 2004 to 2005. “I believe this to be true about Chicago because of the many graduate programs in the city instructing these tenets as well as the social enterprises that call Chicago their home.”

Social Venture Partners

Social Venture Partners was created in 1997 in Seattle with the vision “to build a philanthropic community using a model that paralleled venture capital practices.” Known as “venture philanthropy,” its intention is to develop the capacity and sustainability of local non-profits through long-term and highly engaged investments of money, resources and business expertise.

As of February 2005, Social Venture Partners has 23 chapters across North America, more than 1,600 partners (members who contribute financially), more than $16 million in contributions and 121 non-profit engagements. Midwest chapters include Chicago, Cleveland, Minnesota and St. Louis.

Each chapter is comprised of people who want to have a positive impact in their communities by making meaningful contributions to non-profit organizations through their skills, time and financial resources.

The shared mission of the partners is to “catalyze significant, long-term positive social change in their communities by educating individuals to be well informed, effective and engaged philanthropists and investing time, expertise and money in innovative non-profits to collaboratively strengthen their organizations.”

Each chapter typically requires its partners to make an annual contribution of at least $5,000, which is used for investing in projects with local non-profits. The investments are geared toward helping non-profits address a variety of issues such as children and education, early childhood and youth development and the environment.

Social Venture Partners Chicago was formed in 2004, currently has 14 partners and focuses on projects that empower the individuals who seek assistance from non-profits.

“I joined Social Venture Partners Chicago because in coming together with a diverse group of partners, we are able to provide a broad range of expertise to the investee organization (non-profits seeking assistance),” said Rebekah Kohmescher of Altair Advisers and a founding partner of Social Venture Partners Chicago.

Green Drinks

Green Drinks, which was founded in London in 1989, is an informal gathering of people who work in the environmental field and meet monthly for drinks in more than 70 cities across the world. Midwest cities include Chicago, Champaign-Urbana, Green Bay, Madison, Milwaukee and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Participants are a diverse group of individuals with professional backgrounds in non-governmental organizations, academia, government and business. They have professional and personal interests in sustainability topics.

Chicago Green Drinks, which was inspired by the original gatherings in London, was started in 2003. Each month, between 70 and 100 people get together in Chicago who have an interest in environmental and sustainability issues.

Each Chicago Green Drinks event features a panel discussion that’s meant to provide information and initiate further discussion. Recent topics have included municipal recycling, smart urban growth, water management, local living economies, green cleaning and home products.

Final Thought

By becoming involved with organizations that promote social responsibility, you have the chance to make a difference in your community while building some quality relationships. Differentiating your networking is a good idea so long as you believe in the cause of these socially responsible groups.

Building Your Coaching Business – HIGHLY Successful Networking — The Right Way and Wrong Way

January 11th, 2012

Networking – Right way and wrong way

I’ve discovered some things about networking. Although it CAN be VERY successful if done right, most of the time it is done wrong and the results are nearly zero, at least not worth the time that it takes.

So, here are some hints that can take your networking through the roof. Actually, a “professional marketing” person in one of my last “Building Your Coaching Business” classes hadn’t been able to make her networking work….up until we changed some things. At that point she went from one so-so interested person per networking event showing interest, and less than one client in 6 months, to 5 people jumping up and down wanting to schedule an appointment from every networking event and more business than she had ever had.

Develop Your Niche Market and Powerful, Compelling Core Marketing Message

It all starts with developing your target niche market and your powerful, compelling core marketing message. Everything starts there, so if you haven’t done that yet, then get that article. Email me if you haven’t already received the article on how to do that. Because, once you develop that your networking results will go up 5-10 times what they are now.

Now, the other parts are where you network, and how you network.

Where you network - How You Network

Make sure that you network with your ideal niche market, or where others that also touch that market are networking. Networking just to be networking is not going to generate much.

Network where you can make a difference. Networking is all about meeting people that are in your target market, or are in contact with your target market, and where you can make an impact on them, their life, and their business. People buy only from those that know, like, and trust (they also make referrals the same way). Therefore, the people that make the most difference to them are the ones that they will go wild helping with referrals…and that should be your focus.

Chamber networking – I’ve learned that chambers CAN have some of the same narrow thinking as small business, some of the same thinking that destroys small business. So, finding the right chamber, or networking group is EXTREMELY important. How do you do that?

Find chambers that want to partner with you to make a difference in their members’ lives and businesses. A really great way to stand out in a chamber is to partner with the chamber to offer seminars that help people and companies.

Make sure that you are on important committees in the chamber where you can help lead new seminars, or at least work with people on a volunteer basis to help them. Give them a sample and watch them jump into your shopping cart.

Going only to “networking” events without building the relationships and visibility will become an extremely inefficient way of networking. It can work better once you’ve developed that powerful, compelling core marketing message…but if you start with a strategy to also build relationships through committees and partnering with the chamber you’ll find some pretty spectacular results….if you are in the right chamber, or networking group that feels the same way.

Some chambers can have some pretty narrow thinking. Some will limit your reach “because they can’t support one member over another.” Your job is to either help them overcome this thinking and make a major impact on them and their members, or move on to another chamber where you can make a difference.

Some chambers have told me that: “We tried seminars before, and no one showed up.” I’ve found that most of the time it was a local financial planner, or CPA, or another field, that was giving a very dry SALES pitch…and no one wants to hear that, so….no the seminars didn’t work. Whenever I’ve been given that answer, I usually point out that my seminars are “standing room only” and I’d be more than glad to help them achieve that. In fact, I will set down with my competitors and we’ll all build a series of seminars that will FILL the chamber every time. (Don’t worry about helping your competitors. You will be the one standing out…I guarantee it. It was your idea and your success. And, if you follow my suggestions, your seminars will be full and the others will still be just OK.) In fact, make sure that your success is seen by the top people in the chamber, and by the members of the chamber. You will become a star for doing this.

(NOTE: check out my articles on marketing seminars. If you are going to make these seminars successful then follow those seminar marketing approaches.)

Of course, there still are chambers that won’t go there….in that case move on. You are in the wrong place. Some chambers, even after experiencing the successful seminars will shoot themselves, and you, in the foot. I’ve seen chambers that, once a coach becomes pretty visible, will say something like, “We’ve had complaints from other coaches that you are getting too much visibility. We have to let others have the stage.” And then they had it back to those that were complaining, and the seminar attendance drops to zero. Pretty soon, the chamber will be saying, “Our seminars don’t work, so we aren’t going to do them anymore.”

Some chamber will say, “We can’t back one business over another.” I’m not one for backing down. I’ll stand on the value I bring to the chamber, to their members, and to the growth of the chamber I’ve brought to them with additional members and growing businesses, but….some are narrow thinkers…move on when you can’t continue to make a difference. Look at it this way, you now have a huge track record and can do this with, or without the chamber…so move on. Your job is to find the best networking opportunity and not just accept what I call THE NORM in networking…reach further.

Business Network International — Another really great place to network, and probably THE BEST is a BNI (Business Network International) group. The same things apply here. Make sure that your ideal target market is in that group, or someone who is working with your ideal target market. Be very selective about choosing which BNI club you join.

I have had discussions with hundreds of other coaches who have worked in BNI clubs. The discussion usually goes something like this.

Some will tell me BNI didn’t work for them. When digging deeper I find that their target market wasn’t in that club. Sometimes the club was made up of very small businesses who always perceived they couldn’t afford the coach, and they also perceived that they didn’t do business in the same economic level as the coach…sooo….it was a waste of time.

Find the RIGHT BNI Club-The MOST Successful Networking

However, by finding the RIGHT BNI club it can be one of the most successful marketing tactics you can do. I encourage you to take that way beyond what you find in that club however. When you finally find the RIGHT club, your job is to become the best leader in the club, to show that club how to grow even bigger, to show that club how to bring in bigger and bigger, and better and better companies. Join the leadership team. A really great opportunity is to become the educational director where you can show them ways to network better and to grow the club. Become a SUPER Coach by showing that club how to become a SUPER BNI club….guess what? People will beg to spend time with you, and you will be a star in the club. After all, anyone who can make this much difference in the club should be making that much difference with the clients….RIGHT?

Networking isn’t just about networking and meeting a few others. It is about networking with the most powerful people you can meet, and then make the most significant impact on the club, their lives, and their business….and you will be seen as a SUPER Star coach.

International Income From Home

January 9th, 2012

When considering an international business you need to consider existing market ties, market size, and the ability to market your products effectively. Just imagine all the legalities that are required to set up a business, for example in Hong Kong. The need to meet the countries rules and regulations, dealing with currency exchange, taxation and you would need to repeat these demands in each and every additional country, if you wanted an international business. I am exhausted just thinking about it!

There is a way to Fortify Your Income with an international business while eliminating these concerns. Align yourself with a global network that supports a seamless compensation plan. What is a seamless compensation plan? A company that embraces such a plan basically converts your earnings from foreign countries to a point system that in turn pays you on those points in whatever country you reside. Some benefits of being affiliated with a company that has a seamless compensation plan is the ability to see exotic places, and have the ability to embrace different cultures as you work your international business.

Network marketing or relationship marketing is here and here to stay. No time like the present to start a home-based business that you can grow as fast as you choose. The trick is finding a company of integrity that has a product line that is consumable. Remember, when you consume a product you love, you need more of the same! So, how do you go about selecting this integrity based, international business that has consumable products?

Let’s begin by understanding buying trends. No single group in history moves trends quicker and stronger than the Baby Boomer Generation. You have heard of these Baby Boomers your entire life. Currently those Baby Boomers are most interested in maintaining and preserving HEALTH and increasing or preserving their FINANCES. The amazing thing is these particular trends are the concerns of all generations! Statistics show the main concerns for ages teens-20′s Gen Y’s, 20′s-40′s Gen X’rs, and 40-60′s Baby Boomers is categorically HEALTH and FINANCES.

Networking Tips for the Intern

January 1st, 2012

Networking is not just for job seekers. It is a tremendous tool for those who are working as well. It is especially critical for new comers in the workforce or workplace. Whether you are transitioning to a new position, recently hired or a temporary employee, networking can add many benefits. It can bring awareness and understanding to work responsibilities. It can encourage goal setting and values. Networking can also establish a healthy work ethic or morale.

Listed below are ways in which interns and new hires can benefit from networking.

Social Media Outlets

Once you have jumped on board as the new team member, it is imperative that you learn who is on your team. Be active in reaching out to colleagues on social media outlets. Select websites which promote business networking and professionalism. Create a diverse and strong network with individuals who can offer value to your networking goals. As you are designing your profile, keep it polished. Upload professional head shots or recent pictures. Create a good biography which highlights skills, abilities, work experience and other relevant information. Increase your credibility by requesting recommendations and referrals. Join groups and associations which run parallel to your industry and career mission. Provide useful links for areas of interest which can also promote social endeavors. Periodically, update your profile to stay consistent.

Mentors

Actively seek out mentors within your organization or industry. Look for seasoned professionals who have leadership positions. Ask advice and recommendations for individuals who are looking for people to mentor. Also, reach out to your supervisor about formal mentoring programs within the company. It is also a good idea to ask about external programs which promote mentoring and development. If there is not a formal structure, request that one be administered. Take a leadership role and be innovative to promote your agenda. Mentors can provide the necessary advice and knowledge to adapt and succeed within the organization or industry. Their experiences and insight are directly instrumental and useful for various situations.

I am the President and CEO of Hudson Horizons, an e-Business product, solution and marketing company specializing in creating highly sophisticated customized websites and providing e-Marketing services for small and mid-sized businesses. The mission of our company is to develop websites for our clients in a way which will streamline their internal business processes and effectively position their business in their industry online.

Each website we create for our clients includes a highly sophisticated and comprehensive back-end system to completely manage and control their business online. Now that you are familiar with my background in this industry, let me offer several suggestions to revamp your website. If implemented, your website has a great chance to get to that next level – ultimately turning your business from an “ordinary business” into a “competitive e-business.”

Content Management

Content Management is a system that allows your business to easily manage certain components and areas of your website. Such areas that a Content Management System allow you to control include: page content, page names, images, pictures, news events, frequently asked questions, articles, blog posts, and other website areas of importance. Most quality Content Management Systems are form-based and require no HTML coding experience to manage these elements.

Content Management offers a cost effective way to make changes to your website without having to hire a web developer or designer to make these changes for you. My company foresees all e-businesses eventually benefiting from a CMS component, which will effectively manage their website on a routinely basis. A solid Content Management System is the foundation to any productive website in today’s Web 2.0 world. If you want to compete with the best then you have to utilize the finest tools. Implementing these advanced features will permit you to manage all areas of your website while keeping your overall operation costs down.

e-Invoicing and Online Payment Solutions

If your business focuses on product sales, would you benefit from collecting client payments through online means? If so, then an e-Invoicing or Online Payment Solution would be a great way to facilitate this process for you. There are various ways to setup an e-Invoicing and Payment Solution to process payments online. A few of the most popular methods include: Credit Cards processing, ACH and EFT transfers, Direct Deposits, PayPal integration, Google Checkout integration, and the list goes on.

Having a solution like this could truly bring your business up-to-date and allow you to focus more on growing your business and less time trying to manage the collection of payments from your clients and customers.

Here at Hudson Horizons, we use e-Invoicing to bill our clients via email. Our customers simply click a link in the email and complete their credit card details through a secure online payment form. Our system then processes their credit cards and the payment is deposited directly into our back account – it’s that simple. e-Invoicing isn’t all about making it easier for us as a business; it’s also a more convenient way for our clients to make payments since they no longer need to write checks and mail payments to us.

Custom Workflow Processes

If your business has specific internal business processes that are performed everyday, you might consider having this process completely automated through your own website. If this process takes time and requires documents, contracts or other materials to be created and distributed, consider setting up a dynamic web-based workflow process that does all this for you on-the-fly.

Turning a specific business task into a dynamic workflow process will inevitably save your business time, money and simplify your operations in a very short period of time. We’ve had much success doing this for our clients. Recently, we implemented such solutions for a client’s website, taking their wedding and event entertainment business to the next level. We set up a custom workflow process that now allows them to generate comprehensive event plans and contracts and electronically submit them to reception halls, bands, and clients in a few simple steps. This process now joins all the various parties that relate to an event in one simple-to-use system. This saved our client thousands of dollars per month and, because they require less time to manage daily operations and internal business processes, enabled them to take on more customers.

Customer and User Management

Having the ability to easily manage your customers and users in the back-end of your website is extremely important to the success of your business. Having this control within your website will enable you to: activate/disable accounts, reset passwords, view contact information, email users, track changes, view profiles, manage payments and view order history all in one centralized system.

Social Media Capabilities

Social media describes the online technologies and practices that people use to share content, opinions, insights, experiences, perspectives, and media themselves.
